Angola Appoints Two-Time AFCON Winner Beaumelle as Head Coach

Patrice Beaumelle is set to take over as head coach of the Angola national team. Beaumelle previously worked under current Saudi Arabia national team manager Hervé Renard at Zambia, Ivory Coast, and Morocco. He served alongside Renard as they won the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia and Ivory Coast, and also played a key role in helping Morocco qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

The 47-year-old's greatest achievement as a manager was winning the Algerian top flight with MC Alger and leading the Ivory Coast to the quarter-finals of AFCON 2021. In addition to his international experience, Beaumelle has also managed at the club level.

Beaumelle faces a significant challenge as he takes over an Angola side currently low on confidence. Excluding the COSAFA Cup a regional competition for Southern African nations , Angola has recorded only two wins in their last ten matches. The former Morocco U23 manager will need to quickly steady the ship and inspire a turnaround to ensure Angola enjoys a strong run at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
