Aston Villa came from a goal down to defeat Spurs via two-goals to one.

Coming into this game Spurs were hoping to get back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The last time this sides met at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Aston Villa were two-nil winners.

Spurs lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Guglielmo Vicario in between the sticks, Emerson Royal and Ben were taxed with defending the center area in front of goal, Rodrigo Bentancur and Giovani Lo Celso at the middle of the pack, and club captain, Son Heung-Min led the line. James Madison and Richarlison are out due to injury, while Cristian Romero is out due to the red card he picked in the match against Chelsea.

Aston Villa came into this game in fine form ,winning seven of their last nine games in all competitions, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery lined up a 4-2-2 formation for this game, Emiliano Martinez was in goal, Pau Torres and Carlos were at the center of defense, Douglas Luis and Boubacar Kamara were at the middle of the pack, Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby partnered together at the front.

The first half was adventurous as both sides were level at halftime, Spurs went ahead via Lo Celso, Porro played a corner no one could get to it, and it fell for Lo Celso, the Argentine made no mistake in putting the ball in the back of the net, five minutes later Watkins thought he had equalized for Aston Villa but the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside. Villa drew level at the death of halftime via Pau Torres, a nice freekick put into the box, Torres ran and nodded it into the net. Spurs should have scored more in the first half as they had the majority of the ball and created chances but they were wasteful, Kulusevski's attempt should have been Spur's first goal but it hit the post.

Unai Emery made two changes at the start of the second half Youri Tielemans replaced Diaby and Bailey replaced Cash, Watkins kept Aston Villa ahead for the first time in the game in the 61st minute, Youri Tielemans made an impact off the bench, he was the provider. Aston Villa went close to equalizing seven minutes later but Johnson was denied by Martinez, Tottenham came close again to equalizing in the 73rd minute but this time Martinez had to pull a double stop to deny Johnson and Hojbjerg's follow-up. Son thought he had equalized for Spurs in the 85th minute but the goal was ruled out for offside, Spurs had two goals canceled before this.

The result meant Spurs had lost three Premier League games in a row and have dropped to fifth place in the Premier League, things are becoming sour for Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou. They face Manchester City next and will need to be at their best to get back to winning ways.

The result meant Aston Villa moved into the top four places and have won eight of their last ten games in all competitions. Unai Emery is doing a great job at Aston Villa, when he took the job 13 months ago Villa was in the bottom half, the Villa faithful should be proud of how far this man has come with their team. Aston Villa faces Legia Warszawa in their next match in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
