In a message to Barcelona fans via social media, Xavi wrote: "Dear friends, on Sunday, my time on the Barça bench will come to an end. It's never easy to leave the club of your life, but I'm very proud. After two and a half years in charge of a dressing room that has been like a second family, I want to thank the fans for their support and affection. You have always been by my side and have shown me the same love at all times, just as you did during my playing days. From Sunday, I will be just another fan in the stands, either at the Olympic Stadium or in a few months at the new Camp Nou. Because before I was a player or a coach, I am a Barcelona fan, and I only want the best for the club of my life.
I worked with a great group of players and an awesome staff. Thanks to all of them, we have been achieving our objectives, culminating last year with a League title and a Super Cup. This season hasn't gone as we wanted, but we've moved on and helped grow a new generation of young footballers from La Masia, who inspire all Barcelona fans. Thank you very much to all: the fans, the players, the staff, the club employees, the President, the Board of Directors, the sporting directors, the media, and everyone with whom I have shared this journey over the past two and a half seasons. I wish the best to the club that I carry in my heart. Long live Barça!"
Barcelona didn't waste time appointing a successor, naming German manager Hansi Flick as the club's new head coach - a decision seen as great by many. Flick isn't new to managing big sides, having previously managed Bayern Munich and the German national team. During his time at Bayern Munich, Hansi Flick won the treble. With Hansi Flick, a new era begins at Barcelona.
