Former Italian international Antonio Candreva has announced his retirement from football. The 38-year-old has been without a club since July 2024, when his contract with Salernitana expired.
Candreva started his career in 2004 and played for Ternana, Inter Milan, Lazio, Salernitana, Udinese, Sampdoria, Parma, Juventus, and Cesena. Regarded as a Serie A legend, he made 502 appearances, scoring 85 goals and providing 100 assists.
His only career trophy was the Coppa Italia in 2013 with Lazio.
Candreva announced his retirement on Instagram. His message reads:
**"Dear football, today is one of the most important days of my life. The time has come to say goodbye—here, at San Siro, the temple of football, where I played my last match.
"My journey with you began 30 years ago, filled with joy and pain, sacrifice and victory, and, for sure, so many emotions.
"I’ve lived my dream, my passion. I don’t see this as a farewell, but just a new starting point.
"Thank you, football. See you soon."**
