Copa America is on the horizon, and the football world is highly anticipating the number one football tournament in South America. The last Copa America brought great memories: Colombia beating Uruguay on penalties, Ecuador playing a draw against Brazil, Paraguay defeating South American powerhouse Chile via two goals to nil, and Argentina beating Brazil at the Estádio do Maracanã to end a 28-year trophy drought.
This year's Copa America will take place in the United States of America, involving 16 nations: 10 from South America and six guest nations as part of a new strategic collaboration between CONMEBOL and CONCACAF. The guest nations are Canada, Jamaica, United States of America, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Panama. The competition will take place from June 20 to July 14, 2024.
The Copa America 2024 group stages are already set:
Group A:
Argentina
Peru
Chile
Canada
Group B:
Mexico
Ecuador
Venezuela
Jamaica
Group C:
United States
Uruguay
Panama
Bolivia
Group D:
Brazil
Colombia
Paraguay
Costa Rica
My favorites for this tournaments are Colombia,Brasil, Uruguay and Argentina.
Colombia, a country located in northwestern South America, home to over 51.52 million people have gone 21 matches without losing a game, their last loss was to Argentina and that was 2nd February 2022. They've won this tournament once and will be hoping to win it again, Colombia football legend and captain,James Rodríguez will be hoping to inspire his side to an historic Copa America campaign.
2021 finalist,Brasil will be hoping to put on a great show at this year's Copa America after a disappointing World Cup campaign,Brasil has been without a trophy since 2019 . Every year Brasil produces stars and this year isn't any different, their is a new kid on the block Endrick who is just 17 years and 246 days, he is tipped to become Pele's successor, this Copa America will be the first Continental outing for him and he will want to leave up to the hype.
Uruguay come with a new generation of players likeMathías Olivera,Manuel Ugarte, Facundo Pellistri, Darwin Nunez and Federico Valverde, and an experienced manager ,Marcelo Bielsa hoping to end the country's 13 year wait without a major trophy , although current form hasn't been perfect as they have won just three of their last seven games but they will hope to turn things around.
Lastly, the reigning Copa America and world champions, Argentina, they're ranked the 1st team in the world according to FIFA. Argentina is known for their options and player debt and another talent has been added to the least,19 year old sensation,Alejandro Garnacho will hope to make an impact and win his first trophy for his country.
