Novak Djokovic defeated Australian Rinky Hijikata 6-0, 7-6 (1) to secure his 410th ATP Masters 1000 match win, equaling Rafael Nadal's record.
It was the Serbian's first appearance in the tournament since 2019. The 24-time Grand Slam champion told reporters after the match, "I was playing really well, at a very high level from the beginning. I knew exactly what I wanted to do tactically. I played him in the first match of the season in Brisbane, so I think it was good to do some homework, look at those videos."
Djokovic will face Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the third round after the Argentine defeated Alex Michelsen 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 6-3 to advance.
A victory against Carabelli would see Djokovic claim the record for the most ATP Masters 1000 match wins.
