Eric Chelle's tenure as the head coach of the Super Eagles got off to a flying start with a 2-0 win over Rwanda.
Nigeria needed all three points, as anything less would have put their World Cup qualification hopes at risk. Fortunately, the team delivered .
The Super Eagles made a quick start, with the previous and present African Player of the Year combining brilliantly. Ademola Lookman provided a precise free-kick assist for Victor Osimhen, who was in the right place to slot the ball into the net.
Rwanda looked dangerous towards the end of the first half, but Osimhen dented their hopes of an equalizer with relentless pressing. He forced a defensive error, won possession, and made a decisive run to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper before calmly finishing.
The second half was even better from the Super Eagles. Although no further goals were scored, Chelle's tactical approach ensured his team controlled possession and limited Rwanda’s attacking opportunities.
The result leaves Nigeria fourth in Group C, four points behind leaders South Africa.
