Coco Gauff came from behind to beat Aryna Sabalenka to win her first French Open singles title of her career. The American won with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4 victory.
It marks the second time Gauff has beaten Sabalenka in a Grand Slam final, having previously defeated the Belarusian to lift the 2023 US Open title.
“This means so much,” Gauff said emotionally after her victory. “I was going through a lot of things when I lost in this final three years ago. I’m just happy to be here. I didn’t think, honestly, that I could do it. I think I was lying to myself that I definitely could do it.”
For Sabalenka, it can’t be so frustrating, as it is her second straight Grand Slam loss of the year. She was defeated by Madison Keys at the Australian Open in January.
