GERMANY HELD SPAIN TO KEEP THEIR WORLD CUP DREAM ALIVE

Germany faced Spain in matchday two of the FIFA WORLD CUP, the two faced in Al Bayt Stadium, the referee in charge of the game was Danny Makkelie from Netherland.

Germany came into this game with lots of pressure after that painful loss to Japan in matchday one, they knew a loss will mean they are out of the world cup. Hansi Flick named a very strong line up coming into this game using a 4-2-3-1 formation. Luis Enrique used the same formation he used in matchday one and made only one change in the line up.

The first half ended goalless, Spain had majority of the ball in the first half but weren’t able to find the back of the net, Germany had the ball in the net through Rudiger but VAR rule it out for offside, Germany had a possession figure of 31.6% in the first half.

Luis Enrique made a change in the attack in the second half bringing in Alvaro Morata, he took Morata eight minute to make an impact in the score line, at that moment it looked like Germany was going to crash out of the World cup twice in a row for the first time in the history, in the 70th minute Hansi Flick threw in Werder Bremen man Niclas Fullkrug, Fullkrug cancelled Spain’s lead in the 83rd minute, both sides pushed for a winner but were unable to get a winner.

The result left Spain first in Group E with four points and Germany remain bottom of the group with one point, Germany will face Costa Rica in the final group game, the game is a must win for Germany. Spain will also be facing Japan in their final group game, Spain need a draw to qualify for the round of 16.
