Al Ahly has appointed Jose Riveiro as the club's new head coach, according to reports from top African football journalist Micky Jnr.
The Egyptian giants have been in talks with Riveiro since February. He has signed a two-year contract with the club and is set to become the highest-paid coach in African football.
Riveiro is expected to lead Al Ahly at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup and will arrive with five members of his backroom staff.
The Spaniard is under pressure to deliver strong performances at the tournament following Al Ahly’s disappointing CAF Champions League campaign, where they were eliminated in the semi-finals by Mamelodi Sundowns—a result that led to the dismissal of former head coach Marcel Koller.
Many Al Ahly fans are optimistic about Riveiro’s arrival following his successful three-year spell at Orlando Pirates, during which he won two Nedbank Cup titles and three MTN 8 trophies. He also guided the South African side to the CAF Champions League semi-finals and integrated several academy players into the first team.
