Manchester United Appoint Kyle Macaulay as Head of Senior Scouting

Manchester United has named Kyle Macaulay as head of senior scouting. Kyle will report directly to Christopher Vivell, the club’s Director of Recruitment.

As head of scouting, the 39 year old will run Manchester United’s senior level scouting operations globally. Macaulay will lead the network of scouts who identify senior transfer targets and first team players around the world.

Macaulay’s experience and track record help him fit into this role perfectly. He has worked at Chelsea, Brighton and West Ham United. At Brighton he was head of scouting, and during his tenure the club signed prominent players and major talents including Leandro Trossard, Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma, Marc Cucurella and Danny Welbeck.

Macaulay will help shape Manchester United’s transfer policy. He is known for applying both data analytics and traditional scouting together, using live match scouting, network contacts, statistical modelling and performance data. This approach will prove effective as it will help him identify how well a target fits the club’s playing style, budget and long term goals. It will also reduce reliance on late window deals and help create a structured end to end recruitment process.

His appointment reflects the INEOS vision for United, moving away from an uncoordinated scouting network to a modern system that relies strongly on data and strategic, proactive methods.

The arrival of Macaulay will help the club identify the right player profile, bring clarity to scouting criteria and support a more systematic pathway from the academy to the first team.
