
Manchester United’s win in Manchester derby makes it nine straight wins for Manchestester United

Manchester United came into the tie with confidence having won their last eight games across all competitions, new signing Wout Weghorst was unavailable for selection. Manchester United lined up with a 4-2-3-1 formation, David de Gea was in goal, Raphaël Varane partnered with Luke Shaw in defence, Casemiro was in the middle of the pack and Anthony Martial led the attack.
Manchester City came into the game hoping to bounce back from that shocking defeat at St. Mary's Stadium on Wednesday. Pep Guardiola’s men lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, Ederson was in between the sticks, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva partnered in midfield and Erling Haaland led the attack.
The first half was goalless as neither side was able to break the deadlock, ManchesterUniteddominated the first-half, United looked more dangerous on the breakaways Manchester City didn't play like the Mancity we know, they couldn't break the United backline and didn't trouble David de Gea in goal. Manchester United tried finding a way back into the game, Alejandro Garnacho's introduction in the 72nd minute bred life into the United attack and Bruno Fernandes drew Manchester United level in the 78th minute, the goal was a controversial one as the referee blew for offside after a VAR review the goal was given, Rashford doubled Manchester United’s lead in the 82nd minute, the goal took his goal tally to 16 goals across all competitions, Garnacho puts a nice cross into the box and Rashford was in the right place to put the ball in the back of the net.
Manchester City tried to get a draw and they got players forward, Erik ten Hag brought in World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez, Lisandro Martínez and Harry Maguire in the 93rd minute to see out the game. Manchester City couldn't find a way back and Manchester United bagged a big three points.
The win takes Manchester United to third in the Premier League, a point behind Manchester City and a point behind the league leaders, Arsenal. Manchester United have won their last nine games across all competitions.
Manchester City missed a chance to narrow Arsenal’s lead at the top of the tree, and they suffer back-to-back defeats for the first time this season.
