Marcus Rashford's 27th minute winner puts Manchester united back into the top four

Manchester United came into this game looking for an immediate result after a disappointing run of games going three Premier League games without scoring a goal and conceding nine goals in three Premier League games, Manchester united needed to win to get back into winning ways and into the top four. Manchester united boss Eric Ten Hag made a big call leaving Wout Weghorst on the bench the Dutch international started the last 19 games for Man United in all competitions. Manchester united lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation David De Gea started in goal, Jadon Sancho came in for Wout Weghorst and in form Marcus Rashford led the line.

Brentford came into this game full of confidence and flying high after losing one game in 16 Premier League matches, the last time Brentford faced Manchester United earlier in the season they won by four goals to nil Brentford was looking to do the double over Manchester united for the first time in the Premier League they needed a win to go level on points with 6th place Brighton. Brentford lined up in a 5-3-2 formation Spanish international David Raya was in goal and Brentford’s highest goal scorer Ivan Toney led the attack.

Manchester united dominated the first half and created most of the chances, Rashford gave Man United the lead in the 27th minute , Brentford fails to clear the corner well, Antony puts the ball into the box Marcel Sabitizer heads the ball Rashford is in the right place to put the ball in the back of the net. Antony and Mc Tominay had some decent chances but couldn’t beat David Raya in goal.

Brentford were better off in the second half but Manchester united had majority of the ball, Fred had the chance of adding to Manchester united’s lead after a good pass from Rashford but his shot goes over the post. Brentford’s best chance of the game came in the 67th minute as Kevin Schade finds himself one on one with David De Gea but David De Gea made himself wide to deny Schade.

The result saw Manchester United's winless and goalless run in the Premier League come to an end, the result takes Manchester United into the top four three points above fifth-place Spurs with a game in hand, Manchester united will face Everton next on Saturday and will need to be at their best to get the three points. The defeat is Brentford’s 2nd in 17 Premier League games, they remain 9th they will face top-four chasing Newcastle they will need to be at their absolute best to get a result in the game.
