Newcastle came into this game with confidence after that impressive two- nil win over Manchester united at the weekend Newcastle came into this game hoping to build on that result and main their dream of a top four finish. Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe lined up his side in a 4-3-3 formation, England international Nick Pope was in goal, Sven Botman and Fabian Schar continued their good partnership in defence, Bruno Guimarães was in the middle of the pack and Callum Wilson led the line.
West ham was looking to get the three points as the teams around them dropped points yesterday to put a gap between them and the teams in the relegation zone. West ham manager David Moyes lined up his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation Lukasz Fabiański was in goal and Michael Antonio led the line.
The first half was a very entertaining one as three goals were scored, Newcastle started off quick as Callum Wilson gave his side the lead in the 6th minute through Saint-Maximin set piece in which Callum Wilson headed home seven minutes later Joelinton doubled Newcastle’s lead he was assisted by Fabian Schar, former Chelsea man Kurt Zouma pulled a goal back for West Ham five minutes the break through a set piece in which Zouma headed home.
The second half got worse for West Ham as they conceded three more goals giving two in a very stupid manner, Newcastle made it three immediately after the start of the second half Callum Wilson scored his second of the game, Aguerd is caught napping by Murphy, he collects the ball and passed to Joelinton who puts it in the back of the net, Alexander Isak made an impact off the bench has he wrapped up the win for Newcastle in the 82nd minute it was another mistake from West ham this time the person responsible is Fabiański as he ran to clear the ball but his touch is poor and it touched Isak who finished in fine style, Joelinton made matters worst for David’s Moyes side as he scored his 2nd of the game in the 90th minute, he was assisted by Bruno Guimarães, by this time there were empty seats in the stadium as the majority of the West ham fans have left the stadium.
The result was Newcastle's biggest away win in the top flight the last time, the last time they scored five in the top flight was against Coventry in 1998 this time Newcastle’s legend Alan Shearer was on the score sheet and Callum Wilson two goals today was his 12th in 13th meeting against West ham only Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen has netted more against West ham. The result took Newcastle above 5thereace Spurs, they are 3rd in the Premier League and above 4th place Manchester United on goal difference they will face Brentford next and will have to be at their best to get the three points. The pressure mounts on David Moyes as his job is on the line such a performance is unacceptable and it showed in full-time when the rest of the West Ham fans booed the team after full time, David Moyes has to find a way to turn around the performances of his side they are just above the relegation zone by goal difference they will face Fulham next and will need an immediate result.
