Tottenham Hotspur Trash Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad

Updated: Nov 25, 2024

Tottenham Hotspur ran riot against Manchester City, securing an emphatic 4-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

James Maddison gave Spurs an early lead with two quick goals in the opening 20 minutes. The first came in the 13th minute, assisted by Dejan Kulusevski, and the second followed in the 20th minute, with Son Heung-min providing the assist.

Manchester City came close to reducing the deficit after Pedro Porro made an error at the back, gifting the ball to Savinho. The Brazilian winger attempted to lob Guglielmo Vicario, but the Italian goalkeeper made a smart save at the edge of his area to preserve Tottenham’s lead.

Spurs picked up where they left off in the second half, extending their advantage in the 52nd minute when Pedro Porro unleashed a thunderous shot to make it 3-0.

Dejan Kulusevski almost added a fourth for Tottenham in the 66th minute, but Ederson produced a fine save to deny him.

Erling Haaland had his best chance of the game in the 79th minute, unleashing a powerful strike, but Vicario made another excellent save and celebrated his effort, showcasing the beauty of the save.

In stoppage time, substitutes Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner combined to add further misery to Manchester City. Werner provided the assist, and Johnson scored in the 93rd minute to seal a dominant victory.

Pep Guardiola suffered the joint-heaviest home defeat of his managerial career, while Manchester City endured their worst home defeat in any competition since 2003. They also became the only current English side to lose five consecutive matches, a record not seen since Chelsea in 1956.

Manchester City have now conceded 17 goals in just 12 Premier League matches this season.
