The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has finalized a landmark partnership with Konami Digital Entertainment Co. Ltd, making the gaming giant the official gaming sponsor of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations for the 2025 and 2027 editions. The deal ensures that AFCON will now be fully available to play on eFootball™, marking a major step in CAF’s push toward digital innovation.
CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba described the agreement as a reflection of CAF’s commitment to modernizing African football:
“The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 will be one of the most exciting and widely followed editions of our flagship competition. Our partnership with Konami reflects CAF’s commitment to innovation, global fan engagement, and creating new opportunities for African youth in both football and digital spaces.”
Konami’s Senior Executive Officer, Koji Kobayashi, also expressed excitement about the collaboration:
“We are delighted to announce the establishment of a partnership with the Confederation of African Football. This partnership brings new possibilities to the gaming experience, and we are excited to deliver the passion of the African region to fans around the globe through eFootball™. We look forward to adding new African star players and tournament licenses such as the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, further enhancing the realism and excitement of eFootball™.”
The agreement represents a significant win for Konami over digital rival EA Sports, creators of FC26, which currently lacks rights to Africa’s premier competition and several FIFA tournaments.
The partnership offers mutual benefits: Konami gains expanded access to Africa’s rapidly growing gaming market, while CAF strengthens its digital footprint and global visibility. Fans across the continent, who have long awaited AFCON’s inclusion in a major gaming platform, will hope this collaboration extends to CAF club competitions such as the Champions League, Confederation Cup, Super Cup, and CHAN in the future.
